Understanding Romans 15: The Biblical Basis for Praying and Giving for Israel
Share:

At the heart of Lifting Up Zion's mission is a passage that many Christians overlook: Romans 15:25-27. Let's explore what Paul teaches here.

The Text

"At present, however, I am going to Jerusalem bringing aid to the saints. For Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make some contribution for the poor among the saints at Jerusalem. For they were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have come to share in their spiritual blessings, they ought also to be of service to them in material blessings."

Spiritual Blessings from Israel

What have Gentile believers received from Israel?

  • The Holy Scriptures
  • The covenants and promises
  • The prophets and apostles
  • The Messiah Himself
  • The gospel message
  • Every spiritual blessing we enjoy came through the Jewish people.

    Material Blessings to Israel

Paul says we "owe it to them" to share material blessings. This isn't about earning salvation—it's about gratitude and obedience. The early Church took this seriously, and so should we.

    Practical Application

How can we apply Romans 15 today?

  • Give financially to support Messianic believers in Israel
  • Support organizations that share the gospel with Jewish people
  • Provide humanitarian aid to those in need
  • Invest in training the next generation of Messianic leaders
  • A Heart of Gratitude

When we give to bless Israel, we're not doing them a favor—we're acknowledging our debt. Everything we have spiritually came through them. Giving is simply our "thank you" to God for His faithfulness to His covenant people.
